How did Twitter get popular?

Not only for Twitter, but Bebo, Friendster, Facebook, Myspace, meetup.com etc… how did these sites get popular? These sites rely on other people to be members to really take full advantage. What marketing techniques did these sites use to go from 0 members to millions? What about when these sites first started with only a couple hundred users? Because these social networking websites rely on a mass influx on users, how did Friendster and Twitter sustain themselves in the beginning?

Also, I noticed these companies got huge Venture Capitalist funding…what does a website need with 30million in funding from multiple VCs?

Any ideas? Are there case studies I can review?
LOL ip f There has got to be something free…

Hey Everyone,
I am going to be doing an Intern Job for Reality TV Star/Actor/Model Scott Herman. My Job is to Help him gain followers, fans and to Direct Traffic to his Websites and Channels. He is currently producing a reality show with a stock car/race car driver and is up for the lead role in an HBO show.

To writers of all genres, does…?

having a MySpace, Twitter or Facebook account directly help your business as far as directing traffic (or better, put you in contact with tangible resources). Worldwide Freelance just sent me an email saying that this was important but I already have two blogs and other accounts to keep up with.

If so, which would you recommend?

I have a website for my business (as a writer and editor). I don’t regard MySpace, Twitter or Facebook as professional, given the nature of many of the pages. I have never had a client ask me if I had a page on any of those sites. I know they are fun and a great way to network socially, keep up with friends, etc., but I am not aware that they are considered essential for a freelance business.

If you have two blogs and other accounts to keep track of, I would forgo adding anything else. Potential clients seeking real pros are not going to go fishing for leads on MySpace, trust me. Focus on marketing your services directly.

Worldwide Freelance relies on loyal subscribers. By creating the appearance of authority, they can potentially increase their base. Remember, though, that WFW is merely one opinion. You certainly can take it or leave it.

Good luck.

How come people on twitter are racist?

If you look up Kanye west on twitter a lot of people call him the N word because of what he did to Taylor Swift. I know what Kanye did was wrong and he is a jackass for doing it, but I still don’t think he deserves to be called racist names like that though. I mean its only the VMAs ffs, not something truly important or anything. I mean its in the past and over and he apologized for it and she forgave him.

White people are really racist online, however I have never heard a white person say something racist or use the N world in real life. Its because its the internet, just let it go.

How do i get updates from twitter from people im following on my phone?

I have my device updates turned on but the people im following update thier twitter and im not recieving any messages via text showing me there updates?? HELPP PLEASE

Go to your twitter account and go to "settings" and then go to "devices" make sure the number is correct. also, make sure that the device update is turned on for those you’re following. to do this just go to their twitter page, and click where it says "device updates" and make sure it says "device updates on." (should be next to the "follow" button.) finally, some people keep their tweets private and it doesnt get sent to you as a text, recommend you get an application to use twitter than just texting. follow me and i’ll follow you.

How do I raise money for charity on Twitter?

I am looking to raise money for a charity on Twitter, because I have heard of other charities making lots of money this way. How do they do it, and how can I do it?

One way is you could start a petition using one of the following services.

Act.ly - http://act.ly/
TinyPetition - http://tinypetition.com/
Twitition - http://twitition.com/
Twibbon - http://twibbon.com/

Using any of the above services together with Tweet Later will head you in the right direction.

Why Tweet Later? - http://www.tweetlater.com/

Simple. With the professional version you can setem and forgetem while letting your posts generate the attention for you.

HINT: The less you can make your account look like a blatant advertisement for something and the more you can provide your readers with genuine content the more popularity whatever you are doing will gain.

I hope that helps, feel free to tweet @BodyByChocolate if you have additional questions.

PS: Those who diss Twitter today simply do not understand the power of Twitter. I read an article that stated only 10% of Twitter accounts are responsible for 90% of tweets. I can believe that, but when your working with a figure nearing 3 million I can also handle that. For the record, I’m one of the 10% community.

How effective are ad words? Are they a good business model?

It looks like many sites (including Yahoo! Answers) probably benefit from targeted advertising on the side panel, but do customers really even use that? I mean, I am convinced that even heavily-trafficked sites and apps like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter will go out of business in 10 years if they don’t find some other way to make money. Maybe I’m missing something?

If you have the traffic that Google has, it’s most certainly a good business model.

If you’re asking about AdSense, where Google places their ads on your site for a share in the profits, unless you have a lot of traffic, you will only be getting pennies.

I would try to find a good affiliate program related to your website that offers CPA (per action/acquisition), not CPC (per click, ala Google AdSense).
